Description
Microlife digital weight machine Ws-60A
A weighing scale (or balance weighing) is a weight or mass measuring device. Mass scales, weight scales, mass balance, weight balance, or simply scale, balance, or balance scale are also known as these.
The traditional scale is made up of two plates or bowls suspended from a fulcrum at equal distances. One plate holds an object of the unknown mass (or weight), while known masses are added to the other plate until static equilibrium is achieved and the plate level off, which happens when the masses on the two plates are equal. A spring scale is used to determine the mass (or weight) using a spring of known stiffness. Depending on the spring’s rigidity (or spring constant) the suspension of a certain mass will extend the spring by a certain amount. The heavier the object, as described in the law of Hooke, the more the spring stretches. There are also other types of scale that use different physical principles.
In units of force (weight) such as newtons, some scales can be calibrated to read instead of units of mass such as kilograms. Scales and balances are widely used in trade, as many products are sold and packaged in mass production
